We present a comprehensive overview of the feasibility of harnessing geothermal energy from abandoned and currently producing oil and gas wells, with a focus on the characteristics of oilfield geothermal resources, geothermal extraction strategies, geothermal utilization techniques, the latest developments, and challenges associated with oilfield geothermal energy. This chapter presents novel methodologies that can be employed to enhance, broaden, and expedite the progress of geothermal development in oilfields. Additionally, it proposes a comprehensive evaluation and control framework for geothermal projects in oilfields, which can furnish operators with valuable insights and pragmatic approaches for the execution of projects.
