Mineral Characterizations of Langer Heinrich Uranium Rocks, Republic of Namibia摘要
Mineral characterizations of uranium rocks in Langer Heinrich Uranium, Republic of Namibia, Southern Africa, are intended to determine the mineral compositions of uranium rocks related to the uranium mineral distribution. The research studies consist of lithological descriptions of rocks, petrological analysis, and mineral analysis. Rock-forming minerals of uranium deposits occur in sedimentary rocks (Arkose). Polished section analysis appears carnotite included in quartz-calcite matrix, margaritasite incorporated in calcrete matrix, and orthobrannerite inserted between fractured rocks. According to thin-section analysis, rock samples consist of quartz, feldspar, and lithic fragment. Physically, granular rock materials are made of coarse to fine sands whose packing is of moderately sorted grains including calcareous cement, angular to sub-angular, with high sphericity. Chemical compositions of uranium rocks are analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy presenting Al, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb, Si, Ti, Zn, and U. These elements of Ca, K, Fe, and Ti are mostly found more than 2 wt%. However, uranium (U) element exhibits on average a concentration of 0.5 wt%. Mineral compositions of rocks by X-ray diffractometry indicate calcite and quartz as main constituents. Uranium minerals of carnotite, orthobrannerite, margaritasite, uraninite, and davidite are less than 4 wt% of a whole rock.
